Just wondering...did anyone here take advantage of the Holden 99cent fuel cap??
And what are your thoughts that you can get fuel cheaper than that now.

When I asked about it here at a GMH dealer a month or so ago, it was 99cents per litre of fuel (regular or 92 unleaded) for the 1st 20,000km of any new car purchase, not 200 litres only...although at the time, I didn't ask how or what method they employed to know when or not people had reached 20,000km, so as to stop receiving the discount ??

Here in Melb. ATM regular unleaded has hit as low as $1:04 of late, so should be $1 or under hopefully by Christmas, which is what was predicted due to the slowing/recession economy...boy are we going to be in for a massive rise of everything once this economic climate clears up...

The majority of people who bought during the Fuel Cap offer signed a waiver form for the offer and instead took a discount of the price of the vehicle.

Justa heads up...

Apparently a bankrupt Holden dealer is selling their stock through pickles on Dec 2

WOW

Those prices are absolutely astonishing !!!!

The R8 is cheaper than an SS was when the economy was riding well....

I hope prestige brands start dropping just as much, would love to save alot more than the 20k I can currently get off the on road cost on an Audi TTS...

Which one rj ???

Hopefully in Melb. they might have CDTi's going for only 15k or something like that, I'd grab one for a new DD, unless they're getting rid of VXR's for only 20k :)

It's happening mate. Test drove an Audi A3 convertible (2.0 TFSI, 6 spd DSG + options) earlier this week . . . WOW! But that's another story.

Got offered a "special price" on the car I test drove as they need to move stock. Only 1200 km on the clock and I was offered "around the $60K mark" without even trying to negotiate a price. That's well over $10K off the normal drive-away price for one with this kit. I'm sure I could have done better IF I was seriously interested in buying . . . but not today!

Further to this original thread . . .

I have also been offered a minimum of 30% off any new car in the Commodore range. That's Ute, Omega, Berlina, Calais, Sportswagon, Statesman . . .
Things sound as if they are starting to get just a little bit desperate in the land of the Lion.
If you really wanted to buy a NEW car, now is the time to be out there getting your deals sorted.

I would agree with Imay...When I was looking at the Craptiva Maxx, without negotiating they knock the price off by $10k, and were chucking in the Fuel Cap and then offer $8k for the Astra. When I told the salesman we changed our mind and were going for the Forester XS Premium, he was prepared to throw in a sunroof - no charge.

Just glad we went Subaru...much nicer car to drive and better finish.

ive been to these types of auctions before, they dont seem to be real bargains that youd expect from an auction, they still go for some fairly high prices no better than what you could get from a dealer witha bit of haggling

ps maybe they went bust because of the old stock they're sitting on. 06 rodeos and monaros?

Actually MG had the same thing, but their was Australia wide. I had heard guys where picking them up nearly 1/2 price.

Those sorts of discounts are not happening yet with the prestige brands - but hopefully they will !!!!

What a shame I'm not in the market for a GMH or Ford vehicle, the best I've got so far on the Audi TTS as mentioned before is 20k, but that's off a 125k 'fully loaded' on road price, so a 16% discount - that's for a new order build vehicle, not showroon floor stock, which could probably be had at a better discount, but there are no TTS coupes around ATM...

See what happens as we go into next year, I'd love to get 30% off :)

But yes, these times are the best in a long time to be purchasing a new car, ie: if your cash flow is assured and not affected by the current economic climate...

Is that a new dealer vehicle or S/H private sale Calibrated ???

Havn't seen any dealer new VXR's for that low - yet !!!

Lowest I've seen is 37k drive-away for a new one with under 100km on the odometer or 39k drive-away with 0km on the odometer...

If they hit 30k or under drive-away brand new for remaining stocks out there, I might buy one :)

Holden website has VE SS Utes at $33990 Driveaway. This was a $40500 car. So, at auction, you'd have to this in the realms of mid 20's for it to be worthwhile (remember you need to add stamp duty (4%) and rego, plates, transfer, RWC and Buyer premium ($500 to pickles). There is almost $3K in costs to add...

Me, I wouldnt mind putting a Monaro away in the garage for a few decades, or picking up a ute for ongoing reno's and flog it off once done...

I've been contemplating doing the same myself for quite some time (still spewing I missed out on a new one over a botched deal back in 2005) - there are always a handful of the last VZ CV8Z's for sale in the classifieds and they have depreciated immensly so can be had for a good price...

Prob for me is, I have run out of room to put cars away properly garaged...
