That's the part of having a twin cam 16v motor, plus the cams are made new, some of the places in OZ will just regrind the stock cams,
I got the intake manifold and the 272`cams for $1900 with the shipping

Changed the oil last week.

Cleaned driver-side windscreen wiper with some alcohol and the passenger-side with some silicone spray for comparison. The verdict: both work like new ones again and they're 2 years old - highly recommended. Silicone spray probably won't dry the blade out like the alcohol will.. but I will probably stick with the alcohol and apply silicone later if the blades start to dry out.

Ordered a new radiator last week too. Going back to a stock one.
Just bought new gearbox oil (Penrite ProGear 75W85). I wonder how it'll compare to the 75W90 I put in last time.

Was going to do some soldering on the loom for the E30, but the one tip I had for my soldering iron exploded the other night, so that idea went out the window. Definitely I will have to do this sometime soon to go with that awesome braking power I have now.

Got a little ticked off with the head unit in the iLoad. Being one of those aftermarket all in one Chinese units with GPS, etc. it started beeping a lot, randomly as if I were touching the touchscreen, except I wasn't. Then I went postal on it. Needless to say, I cracked the touchscreen on it and decided to refit the original head unit.

So i helped my sister-in-law today with her Astra H. Her roof rails were trashed and peeling. I looked at a few repair options but landed on spraying them with armour all custom shield! Yes I am addicted, but they came out better than new.

Key steps:

-remove strips if possible. Most are held on with clips. But be gentle because they could be brittle.

-using a strong object like a trim removal tool or screw driver. Peel and chip as much of the old finish off as possible.

- do a light Sanding.

-clean surface with water and dry

-apply 4-5 coats of plastidip/custom shield ($25 for a can in AUS) with 10 mins between coats. Make sure the first coat is just a dusting. If the surface has heavy pitting just keep spraying until filled

-after 1 hour put the parts back on your car.

This stupid heat has prevented me from doing too much outside, so I thought I'd break in the new soldering station (this one also has a heat gun for SMD reworking and heatshrinking) and make the harness adapter for the E30. Still, I'll need to head down to Jaycar or Supercheap and get a couple of plugs to do the three remaining wires for the dash cluster (speedo, econogauge and tacho). Going to pick up a new interior for it tomorrow too.

Yep, same guy. Bloody hard to find a decent interior for the old E30 and his apparently has little damage to the driver's seat, so I snapped it up as soon as I saw it. Means I go from a blue to a beige interior, but it's gotta be better than a driver's seat that's just a metal frame with a dodgy lambswool seat cover on it.

If you can't get that lock nut off, you may have to get someone to remove it for you. I had to do that on the SRi and it cost me $130 to have Brenton from Captain Thread to come out and remove two stubborn lock nuts. Drop him a line on 0407077414 if you get stuck. He lives out your way from memory.

Did some shopping today. Went to Just Little Car Spares to get door cards, window regulators, looms and switches for my power window/mirror conversion. Then went to U-Pull-It and got a mirror switch and found some chrome inner door handles. Now, all I'm missing is the door handle surround for the mirror switch to sit in. The three door looms I have aren't set up for the mirrors, but the 5 door looms are, so I might just de-pin the mirror wires out of the 5 door looms and put them in the 3 door looms. Ah, it's all fun.

Sobbed about it...

Walked up on a nice lady who was using the rear of my car as a trolley-stop. I politely moved her trolley out of the way so I could access the boot of my car and, sure enough, it had left a nice scratch on my rear bar. I rubbed it gently to see if it would wipe off - no cigar! It had worn into the ABS plastic. Awkward moment while neither of us knew what to say as she fully recognised that she had marked my car. I sighed and got in my car and drove home very very frustrated. :cryin:

No, I have full comprehensive insurance.. I dunno..

I struggle with the fact that I care so much more about my car than anyone else (like most of us on here).. but because I'm the odd one out, I feel like I'm in the wrong and I shouldn't be forcing any amount of appreciation/respect for an object on anybody else. But ultimately, other people should respect your property just the same...

I wish it didn't happen but I really hope it was awkward enough for her that she is more careful and doesn't do it to anybody else.

Exactly. It doesn't matter if they love their cars or not it's still about respect for other people's property. I'm sure she wouldn't like you being so disrespectful to her belongings whether it was her car or something else. Hopefully as you say it was awkward enough for her to not do it again

Fixed the idle issue with the SRi. Replaced plugs with fresh ones and swapped in spare coil pack, no dice. Still idling like a pig and still no codes. Then I had a brainfart thinking what else would cause an engine to idle like this and it came to me, vacuum leak. I reach around the back of the throttle and sure enough, the vacuum hose that goes from the TB to that silly little valve on the back of the airbox had come off. Now, it's running sweet as again.

I decided I was going to order some speakers for the front, seeing as I've gotta take the door trims off, so I went and ordered a pair of Alpine Type-R SPR60C component speakers. And eventually I might get around to installing the Alpine Type-R 6x9s that I had in the GSi too.

Gotta say, I do like the look of the later front bumpers. My problem is, I want one from the facelifted SRi, so you can imagine what it's like finding one. What I could probably do is, there's a guy on eBay UK that sells a replica splitter. Get one of those, paint it and fit it, instant facelift SRi bumper. Works out to just under 160GBP shipped. Not bad considering the genuine Irmscher unit is around double that, before shipping. Link for splitter is here if you're interested: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vauxhall-Corsa-C-Face-Lift-Front-Splitter-2004-on-/111246550947?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item19e6cfa7a3

Anyway, my new front speakers rocked up today and I've got my door looms all ready to go (had to frankenstein the 3 door and 5 door looms to get both mirrors and windows working). Gotta find my CrazyLED power window switches now to match the rest of the lighting, lol.

you should look at evens waterless coolant its a bit more $$$ but it never needs changing and does not boil until 180degrees and freezes at -40degrees
its what I am going to use in my car one cool vid on it is they run the car up to 100degrees and take the radiator cap off and nothing happens because no pressure,

Pretty much finished off everything with the windows, mirrors, speakers and even chrome internal door handles (I lifted those from the rear doors of a 5 door at U-Pull-It, dropped the pin out and fitted them to the front 3 door handles). Oh yeah, no more manual windows (which really suck in the Corsa C, they seem to take forever to wind up/down). Now I've got a car full of crap left over from this work, it needs a good clean out then maybe work on putting the 6x9s in the back. The new splits sound really nice too.

Bit of both
Wanted one for quite a while but never got around to it. Then an increase of stupidity on my daily commute happened. Too many near misses for my liking.

Looked at various brands. Both expensive and inexpensive, including the cheap chinese ones on ebay. came across this one, local JB had a few in stock, so thought I would have a go. turned out really good imo

Yeah I've cooked the coolant so will get a flush and change, considering e85

Late comment but as long as you can get E85 easily then do it!! Turbos love E85.

Just remember you'll not go as far on a tank though. ;)

yeah. when the memory card is full, it starts over writing the old footage. if an incident occurs that you want to keep, you can lock the file so that it doesnt over write it.

honestly, i didnt check what file it saves as, it just opens in windows media player with no issues

It was Henk from FastChip. He uses RS Tuner but they are a separate company.
Car feels great, response is about as good as it will get...there are little improvements that can made but I'm really happy with it.

Booked it in for it's first service to be done after the weekend. This particular Holden dealer had not worked on any Opels before, sounded a bit reluctant to take it on and when I told him that I was informed by Holden that there is a software update available which the car needs, he said that they got very little info from Holden about any of the Opel stuff like parts etc so let alone software updates.

Dialogue; Good afternoon I want to book my car in for it's first service - What car is it? - an Opel Astra - a WHAT? Holden Astra? - no an OPEL Astra - silence....... oh I see.......haven't seen any of those ones yet, i don't know...silence........ - Well, according to Holden all dealers are informed, they sent me a letter about that - We get very little information from Holden. - So can I get a service done or not ? - Yes on Monday - I can't on Monday but how about Tuesday? - Tuesday is fine and regarding that software update, we'll just have to see when the car is here..... silence......

Will see how that goes on Tuesday. At least I just got a text message confirming my car is booked in for a service. He did ask for the VIN so maybe he is going to check something - anything or nothing. I do have to have a little bit of faith though so I think all will be well.

Personally, I would turn around and run in the opposite direction as fast as possible. There are plenty of Holden dealers out there that should have more of a brain than that dealership by the sound of it.

I bet you they will charge you a normal servicing price and not the capped price, and they will more than likely charge you for the software update.

Hear what you say but i'll give em a try first. Not many other options here in this area. I did tell them on the phone I had the capped price vouchers so I assume they will honour them. When bringing the car, I won't say it again but just wait till I pick up the car again. Software updates shouldn't cost any money at all, never heard of anyone paying for that ! I'll see what happens

Changed gearbox oil. Wasn't too hard a job, certaintly nothing like changing it on the F23 gearbox bpoin007! Thanks again for bringing your car around to give me the motivation to actually go out and do something haha.

Oil thant came out was aalmost like a melted Cadbury chocolate bar but looked metallicy, 2.4ish liters came out and 2.4ish went back in.

Next step dial up the boost from 17-20psi. :P

Also used this tyre shine spray my girlfriend got me as part of a car cleaning thing for Xmas.

Came out a treat; tyres look great and you can use it on the black plastic bits to give them a bit more shine. Not sure what it is, maybe some kind of silicone-y deal.

Performed some weight reduction on the SRi, ie cleaned all the crap out of it. It's amazing how much crap you have left over from working on the doors alone. Passenger door mirror glass just fell out too, so I have ordered a replacement. Love having electric mirrors and windows in it now though, although I'm still missing that driver's side door handle surround that holds the mirror switch in it and I have no intention of paying $60 to get one shipped from the UK. Might be time to bring out the Dremel.

Yes, surprisingly... I am. Capped price, all items as oil, filters etc... renewed (im a person that actually checks it.....) and included in the price, it even shifts better as it already did with the shortshifter so don't know what they done, updates checked and they even washed it inside & outside.

Quick question... stock SRi rims 16x6 and ET49?
And if going to 17x7 ET 38-45 do 205/45 have any clearance probs at stock height? How about 17x8 215s at same ET? I'm thinking 17x8 is too wide?

I'm thinking 7.5" width is going to be the max in a 17. On a 7" rim though, I believe a 205 wouldn't be too much of a problem. Only thing is, I'd go with a 205/40 as opposed to 45 series. Mainly due to the speedo factor, as with 195/45R16s being standard, going to a 205/40R17 increases the overall rolling diameter by just under 7mm. Going to a 205/45R17 increases it by 17.2mm, which also puts you on the wrong side of the law in some jurisdictions (I know here in SA, you can fit whatever size wheel as long as the overall rolling diameter isn't increased by more than 15mm over stock). I used this calculator for those measurements: http://www.exploroz.com/Vehicle/Tyres/SizeCalc.aspx

205/40R17s aren't that expensive from what I've seen. Kumho KU31s go for around the $90 bracket plus freight or KU39s around $110 each plus freight. Then I guess you need to factor in fitting, etc. and some tyre places will charge $20-25 per tyre for that alone. Guess it's a good thing I have a mate that can do it for free.

Yeah think i'll stick with 17x7. Was thinking more 205 than 215 as well and 40 or 45 was going to be my followup question :D There's some good calculators online that tell you how far out the speedo will be, how much further the wheels will be to the shock or stick out etc.
To the original question though... stock wheels are ET49? Seems a lot vs other FWD cars.

So after being advised best to run 38 to 40 psi tyre pressure on the Astra, I did check the pressure. 40 psi indeed, done by the Holden dealer 2 days ago during it's service (though the sticker in the car recommends 34 psi). Makes for a hard ride so I adjusted it to 38 just now and see what the difference will be tomorrow.
