Awesome price! Nearly went with these over the RE002's, then St George Tyres decided to amp up the price and change the tyre to a ku31 instead for the size I wanted :/

Pondered if the stock SRi rims are 6" or 6.5" wide? I'd been led to believe they were 6" but then every tyre place recommends that 195 width tyres go on 6.5"?
Wondered if it's worth switching to 205/45R16 as the tyres seem to be about $50 cheaper each as well....

16" Corsa SRi rims are 6" wide. And yes, 195/45R16s are expensive in comparison. The 205/40R17 Kumho KU39s I just bought were $107 each from International Tyre Trader (www.tyretrader.com.au) plus shipping. 195/45R16 KU31s are $128 each and the 205/40R17 KU31s are $100 each. So, go up an inch and the tyres are cheaper? Can't wait to see these put those crappy Sailuns I have now to shame.

I can't see it being too much trouble. I haven't done it myself though. But according to the table here (not sure on it's accuracy) http://www.brick-yard.co.uk/forum/tyre-size-for-rim-width_topic60146.html, 205 is the recommended maximum for a 6" wide rim. 185 and 195 would be the ideal sizes apparently.

I'm running 205 45 on stock rims. with the coilovers the car is on it scapes bad on the front. although the michelins that just replaced the kuhmo's on the front are much better in terms of scrubbing as they don't have as wide a shoulder.
will be raising the car soon which should solve all the issues.

Ordered some new centre caps to match the new rims. $107 including postage.

Also bought some new inner tie rod ends for the E30 to go on the E36 steering rack, now that I know how to sort the steering linkage out so that it doesn't foul on the exhaust manifold. Apparently, you take one Corsa C column to rack linkage, and fit the top part of the E30 steering linkage to it and file a keyway out of the bottom section. Results in getting rid of the rubber guibo (which tend to go soft and cause a vagueness feel in the steering) and not having massive steering knuckles that keep hitting the exhaust manifold.

Took her in to get a wheel alignment and CV joints fixed.

CV joints were fine... But at some point some (highly illegal and unsafe!) spring spacers were fitted to my car, and one of them snapped clean in half, so one of my springs wasn't finding any purchase on the mount. $900 later I had new mounts, shocks, and some camber bolts fitted.

http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w254/PrincessOfPeachey/photo4_zps1f3fdce7.jpg
Bottom is what the spacers are meant to look like, top is all that was left on the passengers side...

Also replaced the resistor for the fan motor so now I can use my fan on speeds other than 4!

So i helped my sister-in-law today with her Astra H. Her roof rails were trashed and peeling. I looked at a few repair options but landed on spraying them with armour all custom shield! Yes I am addicted, but they came out better than new.

Key steps:

-remove strips if possible. Most are held on with clips. But be gentle because they could be brittle.

-using a strong object like a trim removal tool or screw driver. Peel and chip as much of the old finish off as possible.

- do a light Sanding.

-clean surface with water and dry

-apply 4-5 coats of plastidip/custom shield ($25 for a can in AUS) with 10 mins between coats. Make sure the first coat is just a dusting. If the surface has heavy pitting just keep spraying until filled

-after 1 hour put the parts back on your car.

Before:

So what I did was start where the rail meets the front windshield. And lift it. You can be a little rough. As you keep lifting it should pop 3 - 4 clips. A flathead wrapped in tape can be used but it should not put up much of a fight :)

$107 for all four including shipping from Autovaux (the ones I have ordered are for the Corsa D 4 stud rims in Casablanca White I now have on the SRi BTW). They're not listed on their site, but contact them via email or phone and you can get them that way.

I think Opelise were $30+ each for black Vauxhall caps plus shipping.

But if they were off your OPC, they'd be for five stud wheels anyway. If they were for the four stud wheels, it wouldn't take much to paint them white. I had to do that when I got the old SRi wheels powdercoated white, as that was the one part they couldn't do obviously.

I've done the bonnet strut conversion, it's easy as. I've never really seen the point in a stud conversion, as I personally find that the wheels are still easy to fit, even if my rotors are swiss cheesed and lack locating screws from being redrilled to a 4x100PCD.

What I would be interested in seeing is how the ECU hacking goes. A couple of us SRi owners have been interested in getting ECU tunes, but no one in Australia does them. To get the EDS Stage 1 tunes, we have to ship our ECUs overseas to have them done. It's that the Simtec70 ECUs used on the Z18XE have some weird encryption that won't allow us to use the IPF flashers that just about every other Opel model can.

Just finished it and the car is currently up on stands waiting for the red locktite to fully cure (24hrs) better to be safe than sorry :)

I did the conversion because i want to run spacers to fill out the guards a bit more, and it gives me the option to comfortably run aftermarket rims without having to buy "Lug bolts" for each time i decide to change the rims (hopefully not too often :P )

And I will make a thread to keep everyone updated on the ecu hack with a tutorial on how to do it hopefully. A couple of things ive found (been researching for about 6 months now) the corsa c sri aparrently runs the Simtec 71 which is a revised version of the simtec 70 found in the astra. Same setup but revised internals.

My goal with the hack is to grab the .bin file off the ecu (the binary file that essentially "is" the programming of the ecu) dissassemble it (which might take some time) and then produce a .xdf definition file from it. Using the bin and xdf you can input these into a program called "Tunerpro" which is free to use unless you want datalogging capabilities (then its about $40 US)

Then ill make the files available to the public domain for free so anyone can tune their ecu (assuming you know how) and then i will win forever :)

The name Silent Shout will go down in history as the 1337 ECU Hax0r!!!!! :sarcasm:

thats the plan anyways =] we will see how it pans out

Firstly to accommodate my 3yr old son. Hunted around until I found one in the right colour. This came from Aurobarn.

Secondly is to accommodate for the morons in other cars that drive around here. Just a very basic model, but has night vision, motion sensor and records in full hd.

We wish you the best of luck with it mate, you'd make a lot of people happy if you could do it! As Chris said the only option at the moment is to send our ECUs around the world!

For my "What i did today..."; finally fixed the subwoofer controller that needed some velcro to hold it to the centre console and was going to fit new rims except the guy on gumtree was a f*cktard. "Well looked after wheels and 80% tread" turned out to be bashed rims, painted (badly) from a rattle can and the tyres were all f*cked, below tread markers on the inside from camber wear and maybe 20% left on the outside.

I can say that the extra 16mm total for width makes a noticable difference, not groundbreaking like springs or a strut brace, but it is noticable.

Can't see any clear oil leak on the picture but I do see some bad clamps and hose that looks too big. Are these tx pipes and hoses ? Don't tighten them up too much with those clamps as they, pipes, will become oval and bend. Redo them and fit correctly mate. If needed, get some tight fitting hose too.

I'm gonna try get a look at it tonight and tomorrow morning to see where exactly it is coming from and Ideas on what to do other than decrease and replace pipe?

fun times ahead then, is there a good place to look at the oil drain pipe? There is also a little bit of oil if noticed on the black scuttle panel between the front bar and subrametoo

Yeah cleaned it to see if there was any fresh oil sitting there so that's probably why. they are tx pipes and hoses, I'm going to remove the piping tonight and replace the hose tomorrow morning, hose on there looks like it's swollen between the clamps.
Half tempted to just buy a courts intercooler to get some quality in front of it and replace the the gaskets as nigelh said.

Do you get any blue smoke out the exhaust? Looking at the picture you posted I still think you have a bit of a leak from your turbo oil drain but if you have degreased that area it should be easy to see if its leaking. With the filter if you can't get it off, punch a screwdriver through it and use that to loosen it, it's really messy but effective way if you don't have the proper tool.

I haven't noticed any smoke on start up or after it's reached temp, not sure while I'm accelerating but I can't see any in the rear view.
Yeah that was my thinking behind giving it a good degreasing apart from making it look nice and shiny again. Will post a pic tomorrow and check to see what it's looking like every drive.
Will do that when I service it next, I had a tool to do it just it's a bit too big. Lol handy aye.

So was looking at spigot rings and measuring up the old wheels vs the new ones and discovered something as well which had held me back from purchasing a few sets of wheels, almost including the ones i bought today. Someone on here told me the offset of the 16" SRi wheels is +49 which meant i'd check willtheyfit.com for various rim sizes, see they'd poke too much and disregard them. Take my wheels off tonight and discover they are 16x6 ET40!!!! Just for future reference for anyone!

I knew the 16" SRi wheels were 6" wide, but I was pretty sure they were ET+49 and not +40. My 17x7s are +44 with 205/40R17s and I don't experience any scrubbing whatsoever.

Off topic of "What have you done to your car lately" however on topic of wheels and poke and "What have you potentially planned for your car lately?"

Anyone fancy the idea of 15x8 with 0 offset?

5219

Ignore the rear's as they are 15x9 which is too much imo. But the 15x8's at the front sits alright. :P

"Steel rims with stretch" has been done to death though, at least here in Aus :(

The offset is stamped under the centre caps on the face of the wheel (prolly why i could never see it on the back!).
These are 17x7.5 +40 with 215/40R17 tyres, light scrubbing on larger bumps. Also on the plus side they've added about 1cm to the ride height so i can now get in and out of my driveway without the crazy angle!

Not a huge difference and I know the angle is off so you cant gauge it correctly, but the wheels do fill the guards out a bit better now which is exactly what I wanted. :)

Maad leak there mate?

Haha, nope. Did the same about 3 years ago and I've just hit my last bottle.

$17.99 for 5L of semi-synthetic 10W40 is very reasonable and buying in bulk means I can stick with the same brand and not have to worry about watching for that particular oil to come one special again - not to mention it saves trips to the shop to buy oil. If it's good oil, you may as well stick with it!

Plus it'll go nicely in my bike, the SRi-T, and the SR20DET S12 Silvia (Gazelle) once I've finished building it... Just ordered rings and bearings for it :)

adam_92
28th April 2014, 03:11 PM
So $179 for the 50l? Or was it on special for $17.99 a bottle? If so, what brand and where from?

$17.99 for 5L of Shell HX7 Semi-Syn 10W40 at Repco right now. No limit per customer.

I got it from ebay on my phone, if you search for the seller named: kuramahose

The ebay listing is under: Bonnet Hood Strut Shock Support Damper Kit OPEL CORSA C 2001-2004.

Hope that helps :) At work atm so ill take pics of it after work and upload them. It took about 5 mins to fit and all you need is a 13mm socket/spanner. The instructions were awesome and as was stated before, they are pretty awesome.

They are really strong too, you need a bit of force to lower the bonnet back down haha dont know if this is a good thing or not :P

Replaced the starter motor in the Pregio last night. Makes me think most mechanics are really whiney b*tches. "Oh, it's a pain in the bum as there's one bolt that's near impossible to get to". Nothing a long 3/8" extension and 17mm socket won't fix. Changed it in about 10mins. Would've taken longer to set up the ramps and everything.

Also finished off fitting new tie rod ends to the E36 steering rack that I'll be refitting to the E30 at some point. And I also sold some more spare GSi parts tonight.
