I believe so. Replaced them with Turbosmart vac hose that came on a 3 meter roll http://www.turbosmartdirect.com/Product-Categories/Hose/ a few years ago and they worked better than those hard plastic ones.

You only needed 3m length? Looks like I might need more, that main one that goes to the rear bcs look like its 1.5m.

I used a bit under 3 m. and most were just small pieces. But they are cheap enough so you can always get some more and use for other things (ie a flexible beer drinking straw). I did however put small ties on all of them and on some of the others I also used a bit of clear nailpolish as a sort of glue. Also use ties to keep them in place as they do move around being so flexible.

No, just go the most direct route as you can, leave a bit of slack though and tie off well. Any tees are made of plastic and these will break with too much movement as I found out the hard way ... on the side of the highway obviously.

If you're sick of sump plugs you could always get one of those Fumoto tap plugs? I know a few guys have used them before and loved them. Overtight wheel nuts will be monkeys just using rattle guns on the wheels at the shop.

I bought one to chuck on the SRi and whilst I haven't got around to fitting it yet, it feels like it is of high quality construction. After the mess of changing the oil on the Pregio the other night, I'm definitely gonna chuck one on there.

Let me know how it goes and how far down it sits, Wouldnt mind going for this over a traditional sump plug, only if it means im not gonna sheer it off that is.

Also coilovers are in, Not as uncomfortable as i thought which is a bonus, definitly need to get an alighnment done as the front steering feels like it has some slack and its definitly not lined up properly,

Balance, rotate, and alignment complete, One of the wheels says camber was out by 119 degrees (unsure if this is possible? ) im thinking missprint haha but it was pretty bad.

With everything zero'd in the steering is much tighter and holy hell does she go around corners. Besides the fact that one of the rear shocks was rooted, I dont see why so many people complain about how "Rough" the ride is. Its far more tamer than i thought it would be, certainly alot more tamer than my S15 was and that just had a spring and shock setup.

I enjoy it alot. Now to start looking for rims

Passed the 10,000km mark in the Transit today. Still love driving the thing. Well, at least I'm driving it as opposed to towing it, unlike something else still in my driveway. And now the iLoad is paid off, I'll be cleaning the crap out of it this weekend and putting it out for sale, seeing as the guy who wanted to buy it is stuffing me around.

Finished painting centre console section in the SRi. May have found source of water ingress into the cabin too.

Surprise surprise though, Jaycar didn't supply the goods and they play up like all others. So for anyone going into Jaycar anytime soon, don't let these ones fool you, I'm getting onto our head honchos to get them to make the real deal.

Had mine on the dyno this morning, started to spin in 4th with the semi slicks on so it's got more to give just neeeeed an lsd to put it down.

Might have to put some street tyres on next time I'm on to see if it changes anything.

My gauge tells me 20psi although it's at 17psi. Afr looks good as does the power curve considering. Reading was 145kwatw and 460nm.

So I booked in some leave from work today and took a nice cruise down Putty Road. Unfortunately it rained all day, quite heavily at times, but I still had a good blast through the winding sections. The Astra handles well, but I think it is in desperate need of a rear sway bar and possibly a wheel alignment. It doesn't really feel off until pushing it hard through a corner, then it sometimes decides to rear up and bite you with some funky wheel feedback.

Yeah, I always liked the facelifted version. Pity this bumper is a little worse for wear, but get the brackets sorted first and then look for another standard bumper. Since I've already got the foggies, grilles and the splitter, it's worth what I paid for it. I got the facelifted rear bumper, but I'm gonna have fun finding the matching wheel arches that go with the side skirts too.

Yeah I understand how it works. Just fail to see how letting hot unmeterd gas with practically no combustible functionality left into the intake is a good idea. I read that they try to sell the idea that it lowers intake temps?? Load of bull imo.

Also im pretty sure i read that egr valves started on diesel cars. No idea why they are on petrol engines.

It's a " double-burn" type of thing which does combust some unburnt gases the second time around to lower emissions. But I'm hearing you, it's unnecessary bullshit to guys like us, especially when it causes problems.

Did my first track run in the opc. The car handled great, brakes are awesome, just a little to much pitch in it under hard braking for my liking but I have a set of H&R springs to go in which will hopefully help.

Have had a few weeks now to play around with an "Irmscher I-Tech" tuning box for an Astra a16let engine. http://www.irmscher.de/int_presse/int_pressemitteilungen.php?dsn=1067
These were sold very briefly by Irmscher and were sold out in pre-order stage. They never made any more. I always wondered what these things do and if they actually work on a petrol car. They are similar to the diesel tuning boxes which I know work (sort of). From what I understood, cant confirm this though, is that they had been developed together with eds. They are somewhat hard to get hold of but I found one very cheap from a friend through a friend that has a neighbor who's colleague that works in Germany ....... Couldn't let it sit there for the money so had to buy and try it. The Irmscher I-tech hooks up to the map sensor. Claimed power increases are from standard 132kw/180bhp / 230Nm to 158kw/215bhp / 280 nm which is equal to a stage 1 remap. The claimed 280 nm of torque is actually the short overboost function on a standard car which would be constantly available then with an I-tech. After installing it, I couldn't feel any difference at all. Inside the aluminium box, there are 3 dials which I started to play around with. I did contact Irmscher for some assistance, cause I had no idea what those dials were for, but they are as useful as a pair of tits on a snake and I didn't get any further with them. After trying a lot of different setting, I now found a setting in which I can clearly feel a difference !!! I'll leave it on this setting for the moment. An added bonus it seems is that the car uses a bit less fuel too. I am sort of convinced now that these tuning boxes do somewhat work but nothing beats a proper remap. I might be offloading this thing to anyone that has an astra j with the A16let engine and wants to do some more exploring with the settings.

Leave the bolt in the centre a few threads and bash the wheel from all angles from the back. It will loosen and come off eventually. And as the bolt is still in the centre it will stop the wheel flying off and smashing you in the face. Saw a mechanic mate knock 2 teeth out because he took the bolt out completely and the wheel finally gave way as he was pulling it amd smacked him in the mouth

Was the map pre loaded or did you have to download it?

mondo
30th August 2014, 10:09 AM
ok, you get sent the handset. you plug into the car and it transfers a copy of the standard map including details like VIN# etc... to the unit.

you then go to their website and download their interface software to your computer. once that is done, you connect the handset to your computer and use the interface to upload your standard map to the Superchips database. the reason you send them your standard map is because they lock the Bluefin map to your vehicle's VIN#

Their boffins do whatever they do and then they email you to let you know your map is ready for download.

Connect the handset to your computer again, download the Bluefin map into the handset and then go load it onto the car.

Took about 15min to read the standard map. took about 5min to install the interface software (can do both at the same time). took less then an hour for them to email me the map was ready (this depends on time difference/time of the day and could take up to 24 hours) then took 8min to load the map onto the car.

it is pretty simple and any idiot (ie. me) can do it. the handset tells you what to do each step of the way.

hope this makes it clear?

LOL getting hit in the face with a steering wheel used to be a right of passage back in the day but barely anyone changes wheels now due to airbags. Note if this is your road car it is now no longer legal once you remove the airbag and can be defected and won't pass RWC. If you're still having trouble getting it off you can buy a steering wheel puller from Supercheap/Autobarn/Repco et al

There's an Insignia OPC owner here in Adelaide who went to get a new exhaust done, amazingly he was told he would be wasting his money if he went ahead with it, due to it allegedly being of a really good design from factory.

I'm thinking the same now actually. I had my eye on an exhaust from HMS Tuning Germany (http://www.hms-tuning.de/en/). They have an outlet in Melbourne that can install them and do what ever mapping is required. But the price you pay for an extra 20kw doesnt seem worth it. Fixed up the Veccys steering rack mounting problem. I think I hit a bloody big pothole late last year and it took the locating teeth off the steering rack mount which allowed it to move side to side 5mm or so. That made it a bitch to drive on any roads at speed so I got some special loctite to make up a new surface to bond to. Feels like new again now :-)

The tyres were very close to the wear indicators when I got them about 2 months ago. This tyre has been so close to blowing out because of the sidewall, il never ever be as lucky as this again.

Well what I'd do is get one and try it out, but if it doesn't work then they fully pay return postage and whatever..its a win win both sides..coz then they'd know too

Changed a tyre. Got yet another puncture on one of the vxr wheels that I borrowed from aaron. The tyre has completely disintegrated. The tyres were very close to the wear indicators when I got them about 2 months ago. This is the tyre now... the sidewall has actually come away from the rest of the tyre but the other side is still perfectly fine. This tyre has been so close to blowing out because of the sidewall, il never ever be as lucky as this again.

Lent my car to my girlfriend and now it reads outside temperature at either 4 degrees, or minus 20 degrees. Has the sensor gone, or is it something else...?

Just hit 4.5 degrees...all time high!

I don't know what she did. I took the sensor out and wiped it down and disconnected the battery and it seems okay again.

But in doing so I reset my headunit so now my sub won't work properly..have to wait til Thursday to have Alberts retune it..

The only problem is that the buyer pays for returns and that just shows me how confident they are in their products

That's why in exchange for the knowledge of the product working(for them), they pay return postage in return if need be..worth asking anyway..doesn't hurt to try make a deal

free lite version. Has lots of sensor information. Won't see what more you would need. I got them crammed into several "pages" and it's hard to see what they all do or what the values are !

but what more do you want to know ?! The lite version provides values for 30 or so tings already ! Abotut he only thing it doesnt have are hp and torque like on a dyno readout.

If you look at what the pro offers over the lite version you'll see the difference. I also feel that I wanted to support Ian for a kick@ss app, but also saying that it will be pointless if you're car isn't supported by some of the features.

The only feature that I didn't get working is the fuel pressure. Light is green on the dial/graph but doesn't show any value. All other things work just fine. I could see most of the things you can see with Opcom as well like O2 sensors etc... Added bonus is the boost though I am not sure if this is correct, 18.7 psi peak on the Astra 1.6 !!!

I've had the lite and pro version, only useful thing the pro really added as the performance testing data. I'd say the reason you guys have some weird values for some stuff is because the cheap ELM bluetooth OBD readers from ebay don't update fast enough to give you great realtime data.... and are subsequently useless for performance testing as well. ie. i gave it a go with my SS before it was tuned and apparently it was taking 8s 0-100kmh! I can count in my head and tell you it wasn't that long! They're good for fault diagnosis and just while it's idling but not so much driving, for that you need to buy a decent OBD reader.

how expensive is it to paint from the ground up?? i have access to a compressor and i have air spray painted in the past (remembering the flick at the ends to ensure a nice even coat)

never bought the paint before though :nonod:

And you need to make sure the compressor is capable of supplying enough pressure while you paint. Most small compressors arent high enough pressure to keep a nice continous spray so you will get spluttering and spitting from the gun which will completely ruin your paint finish

if the crumple zones where the reo bar sits and the slam panel under the bonnet haven't been damaged you could probably fix yourself for about the price your insurance excess would be.
if they are damaged insurance would most likely make it a repairable write off.
either case its not a hard job to fix.

Not quite, it's an application to modify a vehicle. Need to fill one out prior to things like engine swaps to get a statement of requirements from DPTI for what they need me to do.

Plus, where I live, applications aren't necessary to have a BBQ using a motor vehicle for fuel.

Went and saw my car at the panel beaters. The guy reckons that they will write it off which I'm so angry about, but a positive is that he says I should be fine to take my sub, amp and headunit out..and maybe, if I'm really lucky and give him stock replacements, I can get my headlights and taillights. My SRi rims are gone...apart from that, I'm pretty stuck as to my next move

Turbo if you want noise and more problems, 2.2 if you want a NA with less problems.
I know guy27 has a 2.2 for sale?

I bought a turbo... Hehe
